Insights from European trip on Exploring Opportunities

12 May 2023

Greetings! As my European trip nears its end, I had a productive day networking in the parliament of Switzerland's capital city. Following that, I traveled to Germany to meet with Dr. Karl, the former Head of UNHABITAT, who is now based there. Our discussion revolved around the exciting opportunity President Ruto recently negotiated with the German Chancellor—a window of 250,000 jobs for Kenyan youth in TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) and technology sectors.

Germany, renowned for its industries and manufacturing firms, serves as a driver of employment. With an unemployment rate of less than 5%, indicating that over 95% of people are employed, the country presents a wealth of opportunities. These facts sharply contrast with the current state of affairs in Kenya, where unemployment rates are higher.

Today, I invite you to join me live as we explore how these possibilities can be harnessed for Kenyans, with a particular focus on the youth in my constituency of Nandi Hills. Together, we will discuss ways to leverage the experiences and insights gained from Europe, helping you broaden your perspective and think differently.

During my stay in Germany, I had the privilege of being hosted for dinner at the prestigious Deidesheimer Hoff, a renowned hotel frequented by world leaders and the Chancellor herself in Mannheim. It was an honor to experience such an esteemed establishment and gain insights from leaders at the forefront of global affairs.

I assure you that the upcoming online discussion will be insightful, providing you with a deeper understanding of the opportunities available on the other side of the globe. By tapping into this knowledge, we can collectively work towards unlocking new pathways for personal and national growth.
