Ignore what you heard, this is the TRUTH concerning the new Education funding model.
1. All university students placed in public universities will get funded by the Government... Each student from the rich or poor will receive at least 93% funding
2. The new model is student specific. That is it wants to focus on funding each student based on their needs instead of generalizing which eventually leaves the very needy still stuck.
It is focusing on equity rather than equality
3. The new model has categorized students into four
✓ Vulnerable
✓ Very Needy
✓ Needy
✓ Less needy
4. If you are identified and placed under the 'Vulnerable' category, masomo ya campus nayo utapata FREE.
✓ Scholarship - 82%
✓ HELB loan - 18%
✓ Your parent - 0%
5. If you are placed under the 'Very Needy' category, masomo nayo ni FREE.
✓ Scholarship - 70%
✓ HELB loan - 30%
✓ Your parent - 0%
The only thing that has been done is the reduction of scholarships and increment of HELB loan.
6. If you are placed under the 'Needy' category, you will have to pay 7% of your total fees.
✓ Scholarship - 53%
✓ HELB loan - 40%
✓ Your parent - 7%
7.If you are placed under the 'less needy ' category, you will pay 7%of total fees
✓Scholarship-38%
✓HELB Loan-55%
✓Your parent-7%
That means you have to look for 7% of your total fees.
The new funding model also seeks to ensure accountability and transparency in the application and funding of higher education that shall consider amongst other things, the applicant's family socioeconomic background, affirmative action which will consider people living with disability, orphans, those from marginalized areas as well as gender considerations, the applicants household composition and size, this data will have to be validated by strategic partners.
