Today, in the heart of Nandi County, I had the privilege of paying a courtesy call at the Kaimosi Farmers Training Centre, and what I witnessed was nothing short of a masterpiece for aspiring farmers and agricultural enthusiasts. Whether you are an experienced farmer or a young individual with dreams of venturing into agriculture as a business, this facility offers an invaluable opportunity to learn and grow.
As I explored the center, I was particularly impressed by the demonstration farms showcasing a diverse range of agricultural practices. From mushroom cultivation to beekeeping, the facility caters to a wide spectrum of interests. I met enthusiastic youths from Nandihills seeking knowledge on beekeeping, a testament to the center's impact in nurturing young agricultural talents
The massive tree nursery housing a variety of fruit trees, cultured banana plantations, beans, sunflower fields, and dairy operations underscored the center's commitment to holistic farming education.
During my visit, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Levy Kachilei, the director of the facility. Dr. Kachilei, a prominent entrepreneur in the farming sector, is known as "this farmer-kachilei." His mentorship and personal success story in agriculture serve as an inspiration to all, proving that farming can indeed be a profitable venture.
In an effort to further support the center's mission, we discussed the possibility of sponsoring many young individuals from Nandihills for short courses, providing them with hands-on training in profitable agricultural entrepreneurship.
For those interested in pyrethrum farming, a highly lucrative endeavor in highland regions like Lessos, I have secured seedlings available at no cost. Additionally, a variety of coffee, avocado, and traditional tree seedlings are ready for transplantation.
